Determine the layout and pattern of the faux brick finish, measuring the area to calculate the number of brick slips needed. Consider any cuts or adjustments required, and always have extra brick slips on hand to avoid delays in case of mistakes or mishaps.
Using a recommended adhesive, apply an even layer to the back of each brick slip, ensuring even coverage. Apply the adhesive to both the surface and the brick slip for maximum adhesion. It’s best to work in small sections to prevent the adhesive from drying out before installation.
Begin from the bottom and work your way up, carefully positioning and pressing each brick slip onto the adhesive, ensuring proper leveling and alignment. Use a spirit level or a straight edge to ensure uniformity while leaving a small gap between each brick slip to simulate mortar joints. Repeat until the desired area is covered.
After the adhesive is dry, mix mortar according to manufacturer instructions. Use a pointing trowel to fill in the gaps between the brick slips, simulating traditional mortar joints, and smooth out the joint lines. Allow the mortar to dry completely.
Once the mortar is dry, clean the brick slips with a gentle brush or sponge to remove any remaining residue or smudges. Consider applying a sealant to protect the brick slips and enhance their appearance. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the appropriate sealant to use.
