Brick Cladding And Brick Slips? Is it the same

Understanding Brick Cladding and Brick Slips: Are They the Same?

When it comes to enhancing the appearance and durability of buildings, brick cladding or brick slips (whatever you wish to call them) have gained significant popularity. However, confusion often arises about whether these two terms refer to the same concept. In this blog, we aim to shed light on the similarities and differences between brick cladding and brick slips to help you understand their distinct features and benefits.

What is Brick Cladding?

Brick cladding involves attaching a layer of brick slips onto the exterior walls of a building or an interior wall, often called a feature wall. This technique provides an aesthetic appearance that replicates the traditional brickwork while improving insulation and protecting the underlying structure. Brick cladding can be used in new construction projects or as a renovation solution to revamp existing buildings, offering both functional and aesthetic advantages.

brick cladding is a thin, individual pieces of brick that are used to replicate the appearance of a traditional brick wall. Our Brick Cladding is typically made by cutting down full-sized bricks to a thinner profile, resulting in lightweight, easy-to-install units. Brick slips provide a versatile option for both interior and exterior applications and offer the same visual appeal as brick cladding.

Although the two terms brick cladding and brick slips sound dissimilar, they are the exact same product. The main benefits are:

  1. Brick Cladding is designed to replicate the appearance of traditional brickwork. This allows for flexibility in design choices while maintaining the traditional charm of brick.
  2. Brick Cladding can heavily contribute to improved thermal performance and insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by reducing heat loss.

Things to consider with brick cladding

  1. Installation methods: Brick cladding typically involves applying a brick slip layer onto internal or external walls with the help of adhesive and mortar.
  2. Thickness: Brick slips are generally thinner than brick by more than two thirds, often ranging from 14mm to 22mm (however most of pour range is 20mm).  The reduced thickness makes slips ideal for projects where space is a constraint or in scenarios where adding weight is not feasible.
  3. Cost: In terms of cost, brick slips are generally more affordable than brick. This price difference is mainly due to the manufacturing process, as slips are created by cutting down full-sized bricks. in addition, it is less labour intensive.

In summary, while brick cladding and brick slips sound dissimilar they are in fact the same product and just two different terms. Brick cladding involves attaching a layer of brick slips onto walls to create an interior or exterior finish.
