  • Spacers For Brick Tiles – Do I Need Spacers?

Deciding Wether To Use Spacers With Your Brick Tiles? This should Help!

Do Brick Tiles Need Spacers?

When it comes to brick tiles, a common question that often arises is whether or not they need spacers. Brick tiles are a popular choice for adding a rustic and timeless appeal to interior or exterior walls, fireplaces, or other areas. While spacers are commonly used for various tiling projects, their necessity for brick tiles may seem uncertain. In this blog, we will explore the benefits and reasons as to why the use of our brick tile spacers is so important when installing brick tiles, ensuring a successful and aesthetically-pleasing outcome.

Brick tiles are typically manufactured to mimic the appearance of traditional bricks, adding texture and character to any space. Our brick tiles are made from a taking a full brick for which our sister company provides, using our machines to cut the face from the brick therefore creating a completely authentic (both in appearance and texture) brick tile. Brick tiles are installed using various adhesives, and are then finished with pointing mortar.

The Importance of Spacers

Spacers play a significant role in tiling projects, providing uniform spacing between tiles. These small tools come in various thicknesses, allowing for precise alignment and consistent grout lines. Brick tiles are slightly different with the main difference being the aesthetics. Brick tiles are used to create a feature brick wall so to be consistent with that finish, you would only use one size spacer which is a 10mm spacer. In addition unlike traditional tiles, brick tiles are pointed and not grouted.  Spacers help create a professional, polished finish by ensuring that the tiles are evenly spaced, minimizing the risk of protruding edges or uneven surfaces.

Benefits of Using Spacers for Brick Tiles:

  1. Alignment and Symmetry: Spacers maintain even gaps between brick tiles, ensuring a consistent and symmetrical layout. This is crucial for achieving a visually pleasing result, especially when dealing with irregularly-shaped tiles.
  2. Morta Space Consistency: Spacers help maintain consistent mortar lines between brick tiles. A consistent morta joint not only enhances the overall aesthetics but also improves the durability and longevity of the installation.
  3. Ease of Installation: Using spacers simplifies the installation process, as they help hold the tiles in place while the adhesive sets. This prevents tiles from shifting or sliding during installation.
  4. Efficient Mortar Application: Proper spacing provided by spacers allows for easier and more efficient mortar application. Without spacers, it can be challenging to apply mortar uniformly, leading to uneven surfaces and potential weaknesses in the installation.

In most cases, using spacers when installing brick tiles is highly recommended. Spacers ensure alignment, symmetry, and consistent grout lines, resulting in a professional and visually pleasing outcome. However, in certain design scenarios, intentionally omitting spacers can create a unique and rustic appearance. Whatever the decision may be, it is important to prioritize both aesthetics and functionality when considering whether or not to use spacers for brick tiles.
