Installing Pictures And Painting To Your Brick Slips

What is the best way to use screws, hooks and nails with Brick Slips?

So, you have installed your brick slips and transformed the look of your home but now you have another question, what do I do with all my picture frames? Before your brick slips, you had them all hanging on your walls but now you might be unsure whether you can hand picture frames and if so, how do you do it?

The good news is that you can fit picture frames on brick slips but how do you do it? There are several options and we are going to talk you through what you need to do.

Using Brick Clips

If you don’t want to get the power tools out and you don’t want to drill holes in your brick slips, then you can always turn to brick clips. They are small and cost very little but they will clip onto the top of the brick edge. They then have hooks that you can hang your picture frames onto.

Command Picture Hanging Strips

These are a relatively new product but they are ideal if you want to avoid making marks or drilling on your walls. Furthermore, they also have a simple removal system which means that they leave no sticky residue when they are removed.

However, they are not suitable for brick slips that have a rough surface which means that they are only suitable for smooth brick slips.. You will need to apply one part of the adhesive strip to the picture frame and the other to the brick before pressing them both together.

Wall Plugs

You might want to make sure that your picture frames are secure to the wall which means that you might opt for wall plugs. Wall plugs will offer durability and a permanent solution, especially if you want to hang heavier materials.

To do this, you will need a range of materials including:

  • Chalk
  • Drill
  • Masonry bit
  • Wall plugs
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver

You will need to determine where you want the picture frame placed and once you have done this, you can mark the spot using the chalk. Now you will need to use your masonry drill bit with your drill and make a hole deep enough to go through the brick slip and into the surface beneath. This will ensure that the picture frame is not just hanging from the brick slip but is also secured to the surface below. Ideally, you should try not to drill near the edge of your brick slips as this could cause the brick slip to crack and split.

Now you will need to place the wall plug into the hole and then use the screwdriver to fit the screw into the wall, leaving enough to hang your picture frame from.

Hanging picture frames with brick slips is not a difficult job. It is just a case of finding out which option suits you best. Once you have done this, you can then go about hanging your frames, enabling you to add your own touch and personality to your space.
