Create Stunning Floors Using Brick Slips

Most people think that brick slips are only suitable for walls but this is not the case! In fact, they are more versatile than you might think, which means that they can add even more to your home. You can use brick slips as flooring because they make a great alternative to other types of flooring but there are some considerations that you will need to make.

What Will You Need to Consider?

The main thing that you will need to think about is the texture. Brick tiles will have undulations, which means that they will have high points and low points but this won’t stop you from installing them on your floors.

The other thing to consider is that they are also porous, which means that they will retain moisture. However, this is still not a reason to avoid using brick slips as flooring. Both of these considerations will mean that you will need to make some slight adjustments during the installation process. Of course, you can also use our brick sealer to protect from spills.

The Texture

When you consider standard flooring, such as tiles or wood flooring, they are all flat and smooth. This makes them easy to walk on and even clean using a hoover. However, a good brush will make it easy to sweep your flooring and you could also opt to use foam pads on furniture to ensure they remain stable. Furthermore, you could also apply a wax sealant over the brick tiles. This will provide a more even surface and it will also protect against moisture.

What About Moisture?

When you hear that brick slips will absorb moisture, you might think that it is impossible to use them as flooring but this is not the case. There is a simple and straightforward solution that makes it possible for you to install them in your home. The solution will involve sealing your brick slips using brick sealant. All you need to do is apply one or two coats after the mortar has dried, this will provide a protective layer that will prevent moisture from being absorbed into the brick slip.

If you opt to use a wax sealant, we still recommend that you use a brick sealant first to protect just in case the wax layer wears down. You should also look to reapply the brick sealant each year, this will ensure that your brick slips stay in pristine condition. Should you opt to use the brick slips in a bathroom, then you can expect high levels of moisture which means that it could soak through the brick slips and onto the surface beneath. Therefore, you might want to consider installing a waterproof membrane beforehand.

Once you have decided to install brick slips, you can then get creative with the installation. There are a number of options available to choose from such as herringbone or stretcher bond. You can give your home a modern twist by installing brick tiles, especially when you opt for a unique finish but you can be sure that they will transform your home completely.
